Hurricane Milton
We are safe and doing well. Long night with steady winds 70-80 mph with many gusts up to 100. Over 12 inches of rain in less than 12 hours. We never lost power, no damage to house, lost one small tree and wood fence is damaged. Now, cleanup begins. Again. Well, right after coffee.
Back in business soon.

We’re doing well, Sam.
Our kids, about 35 miles west of us, just got power back on last night. We were lucky and never lost ours.
Attempted a trip to our favorite swamp spot yesterday but can’t even get close as all the access roads are under water. We’ll just try to be patient as the swamp does its thing.

So you got to live out “It was a dark and stormy night” for yourselves, and, we’re happy to hear, not all that much the worse for wear other than your fences (and so much for the fact that the word fence is a shortened form of defense). More power to you, even if you never lost yours.

Great news. I suspected you’d be somewhat below apocalyptic on the “How bad was it?” scale, but this is better than I’d hoped. I couldn’t help myself; I got caught up in following live streams from a couple of my favorite chasers. Ryan Hall’s especially good: his crew was widely dispersed, and his reporting always is objective and measured.

‘Twas a long night as the wind howled amidships but we survived another blow without a visit to Davy Jones’s Locker.
The debris field exceeds what Helene left us just two weeks ago. Gonna need a bigger rake. We still have standing water on one side and both rear corners of our lot. Thought we might have a water line leak/break. All the neighbors have the same so just really saturated ground.
Wood fence destroyed on one side, broken on the other.
Never lost power. Slept really well as the wind continued to throw pieces of tree onto the roof.
Again, thanks for checking on us. Chicken soup simmering in the galley. Biscuits ready to bake. Another great night ahead! (This time, without the windy sound effects.)
